I’m thoroughly convinced that Pinterest is one of the best things to happen to the world. Also may I say that Pinterest and Spotify combined, make for a real great time. Recently I found some pretty good/easy ways to burn calories everyday and improve your overall health without even realizing it… so I thought I’d share. I gotta say… the cold showers thing was new to me… read on… you’ll see.

EASY WAYS TO BURN/CONTROL CALORIES

  • Laugh!!! Laughing for just 15 minutes a day can burn 50 calories. That means I get to watch Hot Rod & Modern Family without even feeling guilty. Plus laughter relieves physical tension and stress. Its the best medicine!
  •  Drink water… no brainer there… but drink ice cold water. Your body will burn calories just getting the water to a normal temperature to digest.
  •  Eat spicy foods. They raise your metabolism.
  • Take cold showers because your body will burn calories to heat you back up. (yeah right… you’d have to be crazy to do this!!)
  • Use smaller plates and utensils, it helps exercise control portion control.
  • Sleep at least six hours a day. If you get less than six this can lower your metabolism by 15%. The more you sleep, the more you burn. Taking naps can be beneficial; when you wake up you will burn up to 50% more calories.
  • Stand up! When standing you’ll burn about 40% more calories. So stand when you’re talking on the phone or surfing the internet. (guilty… I’m totally NOT standing up right now)
  • Keep good posture, burns 10% more calories when you sit up straight.
  • Have 6 small meals a day. Don’t eat a lot at once. Spread your food throughout the day. It will keep your metabolism going. Avoid eating anything bigger than about a cup, your stomach will expand and then you’ll get hungry more.
  • Eat lots of fiber. It makes you feel full and takes fat with it out of your body. The natural cleansing helps improve both your energy level and overall feeling of wellness.  Spinach, broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower.
  • Fidget. You can burn up to 350 more calories a day than someone who remains stationary, according to a study at the Mayo Clinic. The impulse to fidget may be innate, but non-fidgeters can imitate it: Tap your feet, pace, or do calf raises in the shower or when you’re brushing your teeth.

I thought these were pretty cool… of course exercise is still essential, but these small ways add up.

Free Write

So I decided I wanted to do something different today for my post… I am just going to do a free write and see what spills out… don’t worry I haven’t started yet… but I’ll begin on the count of 3…. 1….2…..3!!!

Lately I’ve been watching too much crappy TV… what a waste of time… I should find better things to do with my life, but as of late, crappy TV is all I’ve got. So far this semester I’ve printed off more pages and papers than I think I have done throughout my entire college career… I just hope I don’t run out of ink… I’ve made it through 3 years without printing out a single paper on campus and I’m not about to give in now! Yesterday at Costco… one of the sample people… told me that I looked like I was healthy. um.. thank you. Lets see I’m running out of things to talk about… wait RUNNING! That is something I’ve been doing as of late. I’ve realized you either need to be a consistent runner or just don’t run at all period. Ever since high school I have been inconsistent with my running. I’ll run for a few months and then stop and all my progress has been lost. That is exactly where I am right now… trying to gain back my endurance. The only issue I have with running is that I sweat more than most men… yes… I’m not afraid to admit it. If you know me well you know that I don’t keep many things to myself… and yes I sweat! As I was running the other night I looked down at my shirt and to my dismay I discovered a sweat ring… a LARGE sweat ring around the rim and collar of my T-shirt. Gross! Doesn’t that only happen to guys? I walked out of the gym with my head held low… pretty much just to cover the sweat ring around my neck. Buzz’s girlfriend……..woof.
